Lucio Pozzi
Lucio Pozzi's latest exhibition at PDFA was ITNESS in 2026. ITNESS contained four 2025 acrylic paintings on canvas known as the 'Sephirot' series (from the Jewish Kabala) plus a series of 2025 'Relocations', which are made up of ten painted plywood sculptures that are wall hung. In addition, a group of small works on paper and several small oils on canvas from the 1980s were hung in the rear gallery to give a fuller context of Pozzi's multifaceted career. The exhibition was co curated by writer, critic, curator David Ebony and gallery owner Philip Douglas Heilman. For the ITNESS exhibition a printed brochure was created with a 1200 word essay by Ebony about Pozzi and the ideal of ITNESS.
Lucio Pozzi b.1939 in Milan has exhibited widely in many countries for over six decades. In 2025 PDFA held its first solo exhibition of Lucio Pozzi's newest paintings entitled, 'The Overlap Paintings'.
Pozzi's work has been defined by multiple art history influences including painting, sculpting, conceptual art theory; he intermingles various media and artistic approaches to create an approach unique and all his own. After studying architecture and managing a graphic design studio in Rome he moved to The United States in 1962. A duel citizen of Italy & The United States he spends a portion of the year in each country. His early video installations were showcased at The Museum of Modern Art in 1978. That same year he began exhibiting watercolors at John Weber Gallery in New York, a space known for conceptual art. Pozzi has also exhibited at Documenta VI (1977), Leo Castelli, Susan Caldwell, The Kunsthalle Bielefeld and has been a member of Hal Bromm Gallery in New York for 40 years. In 2024 Pozzi was honored by Magazzino, the museum of Italian Art in Cold Spring NY with a career retrospective.For that exhibition writer/critic David Ebony published an extensive conversation with Pozzi about his artwork & life in Brooklyn Rail Magazine (March 2025). In addition Pozzi has taught for many years including The School of Visual Art, Princeton University, Cooper Union, and Yale.
