Lucio Pozzi
Lucio Pozzi b.1939 in Milan has exhibited widely in many countries for over six decades. In 2025 PDFA held its first solo exhibition of Lucio Pozzi's newest paintings entitled, 'The Overlap Paintings'.
His work has been defined by multiple art history influences including painting, sculpting, conceptual art theory; he intermingles various media and artistic approaches to create an approach unique and all his own. After studying architecture and managing a graphic design studio in Rome he moved to The United States in 1962. A duel citizen of Italy & The United States he spends a portion of the year in each country. His early video installations were showcased at The Museum of Modern Art in 1978. That same year he began exhibiting watercolors at John Weber Gallery in New York, a space known for conceptual art. Pozzi has also exhibited at Documenta VI (1977), Leo Castelli, Susan Caldwell, The Kunsthalle Bielefeld and has been a member of Hal Bromm Gallery in New York for 40 years. In 2024 Pozzi was honored by Magazzino, the museum of Italian Art in Cold Spring NY with a career retrospective.For that exhibition writer/critic David Ebony published an extensive conversation with Pozzi about his artwork & life in Brooklyn Rail Magazine (March 2025). In addition Pozzi has taught for many years including The School of Visual Art, Princeton University, Cooper Union, and Yale.
