Farrell Brickhouse b.1949.
Farrell Brickhouse is a New York native. He has been exhibiting his dreamlike densely layered paintings since the late 1970s. Since then he has had over 20 solo & 60+ group exhibitions with noted galleries including Julian Pretto, Max Protech, Pamela Auchincloss, Leslie Heller, John Davis Gallery and Life on Mars and more. Brickhouse has received wide critical review of his artwork by noted writers. In 2024 on her blog ‘Entropvisions’, writer & painter Alice Zinnes wrote about Brickhouse’s solo show at JJ Murphy in New York saying: “Memory, gobs of oil paint, history, time, empathy. Always empathy. Gentle empathy. The paintings of Farrell Brickhouse….ask for long viewing, for seeing into the depths of the mountains of paint; some of it complex grays often mixed from yesterday’s left-over paint; others more chromatic accents that grow from the process of painting, making definable the undefinable image lurking beneath and above the surfaces.”.
Writer Riad Miah also wrote in ‘24 about Brickhouse for the web publication Art Spiel: “…Brickhouse’s paintings narrate a story of an otherwise mundane subject or scenario into a poetic message. His
handling of paint brings to mind the likes of Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, Milton Resnick, Chaim Soutine, and more.
