Allyson Strafella's process involves creating 'drawings' on carbon paper of various sizes using a modified vintage typewriter to achieve abstract compositions, sometimes deeply colorful sometimes using softer hues that often are not framed but rather float and move - hinged from the paper's top edge onto a wall. Her work exudes a quiet zin like clarity & thoughtfulness demanding extended viewing. Allyson has exhibited widely in the Unites States and Europe since the early 1990s including the recent 2025 group show "Some New, Some Historic' at Philip Douglas Fine Art. Previously Strafella has exhibited with Kathryn Markel Gallery, New York; Galleria Raffella Cortese, Milan; Barth Contemporary; Nina Freudenheim, Buffalo NY; September Gallery, Hudson NY; Gallery Joe in Philadelphia plus museums and not for profit spaces and much more. Strafella has received numerous grants & art awards including a 2025 Pollock Krasner Award - her second; a Skowhegan Award and more. Her next solo exhibition will open on November 1, 2025 at PDFA.
