$8,000. Herman Cherry, American 1909-1992. Untitled was exhibited at David Findlay Jr. gallery in New York c.2006-8 where it was a purchased and has been in the same collection since. Cherry was born in New Jersey, when he was a teen his family moved Los Angeles & he studied at the Otis Art Institute (L.A.) and The Art Students League with Stanton McDonald Wright. In 1930 back on the east coast he studied with Thomas Hart Benton at The Art Students League and worked w/ Benton on murals for The New School. In the mid 1930s he began a long & respected exhibition career and became known as an early proponent of the Abstract Expressionist movement.
