Nick Carone was close to many of the first generation Ab Ex pioneers in New York. He had a long exhibition career of note and for a period of time he worked as the gallery director for Eleanor Ward's Stable Gallery, one of the early leading uptown galleries for New York School painters 1953 to 1970. Many of the artists invited to exhibit at Stable Gallery's highly influential Annual exhibits between 1953 to 1957 were friends of and invited to exhibit by Carone. Carone studied at The National Academy in New York, later with Hans Hofmann as well as at The Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. For many years Carone spent summers in Italy.
